Strategy versus Ret Pally...

So far I kill pretty much everything except other DKs. Granted, most just run as soon as they see me, so I guess thats not an accurate judge of which classes are easy and which are tougher for DKs.

However, I was just killed by a 66 ret pally and im 67. He Hammer of Justiced me, DPSed, then as soon as I came out he did the other stun (forget the name), and threw a quick flash heal. After that I was already below 50% and he was above 50. We were in the water and hew as at a distance at this point so I through a few death coils while I swam to him, he got a hit or two then got me low enough for hammer. End of story.

So whats the stat versus a ret paly? Their healing outdoes ours, their DPS is compareable, and if they have Lay on hands and bubbles up, it seams like a really tough fight?

Ret is a really tough match up, but it all depends on your spec, personally I own ret paladins as blood, my personal choice for pvp.

basically you want to burn them down asap, to make them pop there bubble, and in that time while there healing up you take the time to do the same. as blood I like to work on getting my runic power up to 100 while using hysteria to burn them down, once the bubble is gone pop drw and there toast, as for the stun, I usually trinket and hysteria is up for 20 seconds so when they do repentance, it will break because it is just an incapacitate.


I think a frost build would be the hardest, to beat a ret paladin due to there lack of consistent damage, pallys can usually survive a bit of burst due to bubbles and such,

unholy basically same as blood try and get bubble popped, then burn them with your gargoyle, at that level you probably wont be unholy with rune tap though so blood is probably the best for taking on paladins

Ret Pallies are the most overpowered classes for now. They weren't before the new patch, but since we got nerfed, well, they got it.

For killing one of them, you gotta play well. You will need to use everything that you have and a bit more, so... consumables ftw

Anti-Magic Zone/Shell FTW. A huge lot of their damage comes from spell, so it will help your HP getting OK. You will have to hit 'em as hard as you can while looking your HP. When you get half the way to death, use Death Pact.
Remember to always keep your diseases up, as they are Plate wearers and it's a pain to your weapon damage. Spend everything you have to make him bubble. When he does that, bandage FTW. But stay away as he can just throw a hammer on you to stop it. So, you see a bubble, you run and heal yourself while he's healing himself. If you get to this point with the same HP that he has, you're probably a winner.

Tho, it's not easy to do as it's easy to write. Being a good DK PvPer is not easy, as you have a million buttons to click for each situation.

from my expierence you need to remeber all you damage mitigation buttons. ice bound fortitude and AMS will help ALOT against a palli. problem with them is that you have to kill them up wards of 2 to 3 times with lay on hands and bubbles. im frost so i try to use what CC i have to assist. Another thing i have been trying that has worked out so far is silence them at around 45% and Pop eveything i can for damage. to get em before the silence wears out. Also as unholy you have the pet stun that you could try that as well. Just as a side note. crusader strike and divine storm are not mitigated by AMS they are considered weapong damage.

I have been thinking about how to combat a pally using my DK and a thought occured to me. Granted, this is easier if you see him coming at you (such as battle grounds), but it may work if you get jumped.

The idea I had was to open with strangulate to keep him from casting anything and as you gain runic power from your strikes, mind freeze him as often as possible. Does anyone know if mind freeze works when a pally is bubbled?

Not a bad idea if you can burn them down fast enough. But then again they can just bubble. Bubble will protect against strangulate and mind freeze, but I cant say if they can bubble out of the affect. Although I think so.

If they can bubble out of it, then that wont work at all because they could just bubble once you start getting them low. But maybe if you can disorient them with a strangulate/MF combo then stun them, you could burn them down.

this wont work if they are relatively geared though.
