So I was recently tanking a naxx 25 man on my paladin. After the first boss one of the few upgrades I needed dropped. Then our raid leader and ML got DCed. He was in vent and said he could not log back in. Well eventually the item I needed rotted because someone rolled greed (he was kicked from the group) and the item then couldnt be looted.
Later more people were disconnected and eventually I myself was DCed. Upon trying to log back in I was stuck at "Authenticating..."
After checking the forums and hearing others in vent, I realized this was a huge issue affecting ALOT of people. Reading further I heard some claiming they could log in by "merging their account with battle.net".
Im sure this is a work around, but it is clear to me Blizzard are having major issues.
Here are my thoughts of what it could be:
More unlikely, but its possible login servers were attacked or disrupted somehow by malicious individuals/software.
Software/backend problem with login servers or the authentication process. I would not be surprised if this had something to do with tinkering they have done with the armory/profiles/mobile armory etc. Linking different accounts to different systems perhaps they got their wires crossed?
Or perhaps they had some good old fashioned hardware problems.
To me, this smells like a mistake made by blizzard. Servers and hardware are always backed up and redundant. This was either something malicious or the intern tripped over the power cord while fetching some coffee. Either way I see a growing number of screw ups coming from Blizzard lately with very little or NO reimbursement. As I am a casual player who unfortunately has to play on a US west coast server while living in Europe I have very few opportunities to raid and get gear. And tonight was AGAIN completely screwed up by Blizzard's mismanagement of technical issues.
