View Full Version : 3.fail? The worst patch yet...

I'm not talking about the content here, I'm talking about how blizzard handled the upgrade.

The game is now unplayable for me and has been for nearly a week now.

During the week I only have a few hours each day after I get home from work and before I go to bed to play WoW. Being that I live in Germany now and play on a US server I am usually one of the unlucky gamers who's play time also coincides with blizzards favorite patching times. 2 days this week I got home to see the servers were down for extended periods (both nights I was not able to play at all), emergency patches, rolling restarts, 3.1.1 etc.

3.1 was not too bad for me. Things at least seemed to work ok. 3.1.1 broke EVERYTHING.

First dual spec was not working and I could not reassign my talents. Then I started having major connection issues. The game seemed to keep disconnecting me from the internet. I tried some things, but it didnt help. Up to now, I am still having random disconnects, or multiple disconnects in a row. Sometimes I will login, get disconnected as soon as I am in game, then reconnect, login and I get disconnected from the net again. This can just keep going on and on.

I have checked the forums and it seems there are quite a few others having the same issue. It seems as though there is a "break" in the network somewhere along the way to blizzard's gameservers. Its possible this was just a really big coincidence that there are major network issues that are not blizzard's fault and are completely out of their control at the same time all of these problems arose since the patch but it is definitely only happening when I connect to wow.

Other than that my internet seems OK.

It is unfortunate, I really LOVE some of the things they added in 3.1 but the technical implementation was very very sloppy, especially for Blizzard. This is by far the worst upgrade I have experienced in my time playing WoW, and possibly the worst ive experienced across other games too. It has been 10 days now since 3.1 and a majority of that time the game has been unplayable.

I know there are others who are having the same problems I am. What about you? Has everything been working fine, or have you had major issues too?

The problem is not the new patch it is an ongoing problem since the implementation of WotLK the latency issues have never been fully repaired and this more than anything else degrades the game experience.

The problem is seen more often than not in Dalaran with muy latency there being over 300 on a regular basis and the framerate / sec can often drop to single figures, until this is sorted out gameplay will always suffer

Yes I agree with the latency and other issues since WOTLK. But also shatt always had framerate issues too. Its just how the city is designed and so many players with different gear and textures/polygons to load. In the end the more complex they build new content the more we need to upgrade our hardware.

I dont mind if I lag in Dalaran as I just use it as my hub and bind point. I'm only in the city for a few minutes anyways.

Thanks for joining by the way and welcome to the forums!

Hey, very sorry to read your troubles but I have a slightly different question. You mentioned that you play on the US servers while living in Germany. How does that work? You just bought the US version of the game and thats it?

Reason why I am asking is I am (maybe) moving to the states (living in holland atm) and would hate to say goodbye too my lock and DK that I've worked so hard to get to where they are now.

If I would bring my EU disks and installed say in Chicago, would it just work? I would think it would be a slow connection, but sounds like your doing it.

Your thoughts would be much apperciated

No problem. I had similar questions when I was planning my move to Germany. I am from the US but moved to Germany for work and a girl :)

Basically the character you have now is on EU servers. I checked to see if it is possible to do a "transatlantic transfer" ie. from US server to EU server and they said "not currently". I would have like to transfer some of my chars just for the improvement in ping. However right now I am playing a character on a WEST COAST US server which is geographically much further than even an east coast US server. Therefor my ping is pretty bad. However its still playable. If you are doing mostly PVE you should be fine, I think you would suffer if you were a big PVPer doing arenas and BGs etc. as then you would experience more seasoned pvpers who are harder to take out and every second counts.

I am more of a pvper but so far have just been leveling and not pvping as much. I might start more once I hit 80, we'll see. As for me, my ping is usually yellow around 200-400. Sometimes it spikes alot, and sometimes i get disconnects. However not usually too bad as I am now.

In answer to your origional question: yes your character will jsut work. You have an EU copy of the game so you will see EU servers when you log into the game. I dont see any EU servers while in germany because i own a US copy.

Hope this helps!

to the best of my knowledge you can play wow on eu or us servers simply by changing the realm list folder no need to have eu/us version disc?
back when i first got into wow i was on a private server and it was the same there.
