Now that World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King has been on shelves for a while, gaming media outlets are beginning to post their reviews of the title. Expected. This game deserved 100%, 5/5, 10/10, etc. If anyone rates it less then that, they are crazy.

Wrath of the Lich King is one of the best expansions I've played.

Northrend is very involving, much more so than Burning Crusade which was filled with more of the same as far as quests go and some new instances.

Northrends story line, movie scenes and quests that change the landscape around you kept me entertained all the way to 80, I never felt as though it was just another boring grind.

I've not experienced all the instances in Northrend yet, but Naxx is just as I remember it back in the 40 man raid days and the new Trial of champions is pretty awesome.

The next expansion looks to raise the bar even higher though, flying mounts in the old zones, changing landscapes, new quests, only 5 more levels, new races... should be pretty sweet.


Some of my chief gripes about the expansion, or the game in general are:

Additional instances cannot be launched. - this is the number one problem with the game right now. Roughly 80% of my game play revolves around instances. Humping instance walls for anywhere from 1-45 minutes just to run a heroic is beyond annoying and I have given up on trying to make any alts right now, as getting in to instances prior to 70 is akin to torture.. this had better be Blizzards first priority, because they have effectively broke half the game for a lot of players.

Still too much rep grinding.

EPIC gear is far too common. Blizzard needs to create a new rank of gear, EPIC used to mean that you knew what you were doing and had put the time into developing your character and playing him. Now, a week at 80, you can have a full set of EPIC armor and even weapons from TOC. Don't get me wrong, toc is great, but epics should now be marked as common. There are far too many horrible players running around in gear that puts their Heroes rating right up into Naxx (25) and still have no clue what the hell they are doing or how their class mechanics work.

A Deathknight (80 in decent gear) asked me the other day, how much intellect should he work into his suit...

I agree this is an excellent expansion. However I am definately looking forward to Cataclysm! Goblins, wolvar!

One thing I can say I dont like about WOTLK is the armor set models. IMO Burning Crusade had a huge leg up on WOTLK armor models. Whats with classes getting the same exact model sets, has Blizzard gotten lazy? it seems like this is going to be normal from now on...all plate wearers get one model set, cloth, leather, etc. for the most part. OK so it wasnt the case in t7, but overall I can say the armor just is not as cool looking anymore. There are a few classes that did OK, but in general the armor is much less flamboyant. Some people like this some dont, but I still prefer some of teh BC looks. Maybe they will revive the crazy armor in Catacalysm.

It used to be you could spot a bigger player a mile away. Now you have to really look and some classes you cant tell the difference between a high-end raider and a fresh level 80 witha few set pieces.
